Boat Ladders

By Damian Sofsian

A boat ladder is an essential accessory for boats. They help in climbing in and out of the boats. Boat ladders can assist in climbing in the boat from two ways; one from the deck mount and two from the side. They come in a variety of models ranging from single step to five steps. The height of the boat helps in deciding the number of steps you need. They are mostly manufactured in a combination of aluminum, stainless steel, vinyl and plastic parts. Boat ladders have two hooks at the top to fit on the boats side for support. The width of your boat side should determine the size of the boat ladder hook. Most boat ladders come in folding type models with unbreakable rungs and do not sink in the water.

There are some special boat ladders. Transom ladders are meant for boats having transoms. Similarly, there are ladders for pontoon boats. Even an electric hydraulic controlled ladder is available for pontoon boats; having two handrails that extend up to facilitate climbing. For divers, there are sports boat ladders that come with center design and a comfortable angle for a problem-free, easy dive. And for the explorer who has to wear inflatable gear, specially designed ladders with contours are available. Rope ladders are not very common in boats, but they are quite convenient for swimmers. Rope ladders are used for landings and are essential for rescues. For the people, who like to take their dogs boating, there are boat ladders designed for dogs without gaps, so they can walk easily in and out of the boat without stumbling and falling.

Boat ladders should ideally fold flat for easy storage, should be sturdy and durable and provide maximum foot comfort. One can find boat ladders in outdoor activities stores, hardware shops, and special boat accessories shops or on the Internet. Some manufacturers provide custom-made boat ladders on request.

Tips About used sailboat

According to the Guiness Book of Motorboating, the history of the inflatable boat goes back as far as 880 BC, when the Assyrian king Ashurnasirpal II ordered troops to cross a river using greased animal skins, which they inflated continuously to keep the vessels afloat. In ancient China, during the Sung and Ming dynasties, inflated, airtight skins were used for crossing rivers.

Ski Boat Accessories - Tips On Some Useful Ski Boat Accessories You Might Need

By Daniel Wildwood

Did you know that there are all kinds of cheap and not so cheap additions that you can get for your ski boat? Expensive as the ski boat itself might have been, these additions can also set you back quite a bit. You can improve the fancy looks of your ski boat with any number of extras. Some of these will be basic and necessary additions, while others are fancy hi-end items. Hang on to your purse, because there are any number of these from which to choose.

Amongst the many accessories available for ski boats, perhaps one of the most used ones is a swim platform. This contraption is installed at the stern of the boat, and is used to make life easier for swimmers and skiers to easily get into the water. No jumping or climbing over the side of the boat - just slide straight into the water with skis attached.

Now how do you get back into the boat after you are knocked out from swimming and skiing. The answer, of course, is a ladder, which gets mounted onto the swim platform - yet another useful ski boat accessory.

As the ski boat moves forward and picks up speed, a wakeboarder needs to be able to quickly come up to the surface of the water. This process can be helped along by use of a ski boat accessory known as the wakeboard tower. This equipment is connected to the top of the ski pole, and the ski rope is then tied to the top of the tower. As the boat starts to accelerate, the rope pulls upwards on the wakeboarder as well as forwards, to help get him or her quickly to the surface of the water

Knowing when a skier has dropped out, is very important for the driver of the boat, who is usually alerted by means of a spotter. Still, it's important for the driver to be directly aware of what is going on with the skier, in case the spotter doesn't signal the driver quickly enough that the skier has dropped out. And so a rear view mirror for the driver to directly see the skier behind the boat becomes another very important ski boat accessory.

These items are for sure not a complete list of all the available ski boat accessories which you might want to buy, but it's enough to get you started, as they are among the most important ones. As you gain more experience in using your ski boat, you will likely find other useful accessories to add to your enjoyment of using the ski boat.

Your boats seaworthiness can depend on the load you put in it and where you put it. Too much weight can overload your boat and cause it to become unstable or allow small waves to come aboard. It will also reduce the amount your boat can roll before its sides dip under. Weight that is carried too high will reduce stability, making your boat more apt to roll and less inclined to return to an upright position

Most of today's modern inflatable boats easily match conventional runabouts for speed and handling, while some of the more sophisticated rigid-hulled inflatables are clearly superior to ordinary fiberglass or aluminum boats. For instance, the Virage range of sports boats features Zodiac's patented Futura speed tubes to produce amazing lift and stability. Because the Futura hull merely kisses the water, it creates less drag and thus requires less power to reach incredible speeds while performing with absolute safety. The big rigid-hulled inflatable superboats are equally impressive. With deep V-keels up forward and flat planing sections aft they can produce an astonishingly comfortable ride in tough offshore conditions, yet maneuver with ease in the tightest dock or harbor.

So, I was just wondering if anyone has this and can tell me what it's like. Can anyone tell me what type of GPS antenna would be best (an internal or an external)? My boat is aluminium and I'm not sure how the signal would go through aluminium, and, is the accuracy of these units as good as each other?

The Pros and Cons of Used Jet Skis

By Kathi Janine

Just like cars, when you consider buying used jet skis there are some things to think about. There are definite pros and cons. With jet skis, there aren't too many disadvantages.

This article is all about buying a used one. Not saying that buying brand new is such a bad thing, but you really should consider the benefits of going used.

First of all, used jet skis are cheaper. When you purchase something already used, the price is definitely going to go down.

The value is not the same for all jet skis. You need to consider how old it is, the condition it is in and of course the model. Usually the price will be lower if it is in worn condition and several years old.

Most sellers of used jet skis are private owners. This usually means that the price will be significantly lower than the actual price. And, it is very possible that the jet ski was hardly ever used.

You will usually have no problem finding a used jet ski to buy. People usually sell them because their garage is too full and they hardly ever got around to using it as much as they had hoped.

Actually, when it comes down to it, a huge reason why sellers want to sell is because jet skis cannot be used all year round unless you live somewhere warm.

I mean, why have a brand new jet ski when you can only use it in the summer? It is really only worth buying a new one if you lived right by the water and in a very warm climate where you will get to use it most of the year.

Finding used jet skis for sale is actually quite easy. There are websites and online auctions where you can pick one up. I would also suggest looking in your local newspaper and classified ads to see if there is anyone local who wants to get rid of theirs.

If you find a jet ski that is in great condition you may want to consider making a little bit of extra money by renting it out.

Much like a motorcycle, acceleration in a jet ski is provided by a hand-powered throttle located on the right-side grip. By twisting the throttle, the driver can increase power to the motor. Steering a jet ski requires a combination of pointing the front-mounted grips and maneuvering the body. Unlike a street motorcycle, a jet ski often requires significant acceleration to accomplish sharp turns in the water.

Boom Brakes & Preventers, Preventing Injuries.

Thu, 20 Dec 2007 16:32:21 +0200
Not wishing to pre-empt the findings of the investigation into the latest tragedy in the ARC rally. But taking a good hard look at preventing injuries from being hit specifically by booms:-

During racing, the controlled gybe manoeuver may be performed many times without the use of a boom preventer - this is understandable. However, when in a cruising mode and when setting a course for a distant destination, is there a good reason for not using a boom preventer, so that if an unplanned gybe occurs - possible injury is averted ????

Tips About jet powered boat

A sailboat or sailing boat is a boat propelled partly or entirely by sails. The term covers a variety of boats, larger than small vessels such as sailboards and smaller than sailing ships, but distinctions in size are not strictly defined and what constitutes a sailing ship, sailboat, or a smaller vessel (such as a sailboard) varies by region and culture.

Boat Insurance - Which One for You?

By John Gibb

You might not have realised it, but boat insurance is the oldest kind of insurance there is. People have been insuring their boats since the 17th century, and over time a number of standards have arisen. The chances are, though, that youre probably much more familiar with car insurance so the good news is that car insurance and boat insurance are actually very similar.

Basically, there are three situations you can be insured against: your boat (or its cargo) being damaged, your boat sinking, and your boat hitting another. Although few countries make it a requirement that your boat must be insured (considering how many boats sail in international waters), you would be very wise to at least buy the third party insurance, in case you hit a boat that is very much more valuable than your own. You will probably find it quite unnecessary to insure your boat against total loss unless it is very valuable it is mainly practical for large ships, and especially for ones carrying valuable cargo.

As with car insurance, policies come with an excess to discourage small claims for boat insurance, this is usually quite a large sum of money, as the intention of the insurance is to cover you against substantial losses instead of just scratches and dents.

There are also a few kinds of insurance you can buy that are unique to boating, although it is unlikely that you will ever find yourself in need of them. If you get Increased Value insurance, your policy will pay out at your boats market value if it is more than the amount you insured it for only useful if you expect your boat to go up in value. Finally, if youre thinking of sailing into a warzone, you might want to get war risk insurance. Of course, you might also want to get your head checked out, if you know what I mean.

More Info On water jet boat

Jet Ski became foremost the colloquial term for stand-ups because, in 1973, Kawasaki was responsible for a limited production of stand-up models as designed by the recognized inventor of Jet Skis, Clayton Jacobson II.[2] In 1976, Kawasaki then began mass production of the JS400-A. JS400s came with 400 cc two-stroke engines and hulls based upon the previous limited release models. It became the harbinger of the success Jet-Skis would see in the market up through the 1990s. In 1986 Kawasaki broadened the world of Jet Skis by introducing a two person model with lean-in "sport" style handling and a 650cc engine, dubbed the X-2. Then in 1989, they introduced their first two passenger "sit-down" model, the Tandem Sport (TS) with a step-through seating area.

Weekender yachts are slightly larger, sub-30-feet (9.5 m) in length. They often have twin keels or lifting keels such as in trailer sailers. This allows them to operate in shallow waters, and if needed "dry out"become beached as the tide falls. The hull shape (or twin-keel layout) allows the boat to sit upright when there is no water. Such boats are designed to undertake short journeys, rarely lasting more than 2 or 3 days (hence their name). Of course, in coastal areas long trips may be undertaken in a series of short hops.
You will find used powerboats for sale at our store.

Before 1990, personal watercraft emissions were unregulated in the United States. Many were powered by two-stroke cycle engines, which are smaller and lighter than four-stroke cycle engines but much more polluting. Simple two-stroke engines are lubricated on a "total loss" method, mixing lubricating oil with their fuel; they are estimated to exhaust in excess of 25% of their fuel and oil unburned in addition to the products of incomplete and complete combustion.
